Dyfi Enduro
Well another year meant another excellent Dyfi Enduro and this year saw a huge turnout from MBNW with 15 member taking part in the 60km off road challenge.
The course was typical Dyfi style with endless climbs sapping the energy out of the riders and brief
breaks in the climbs to descend straight back to the valley floor on steep slippery tracks which really tested the technical skills of the participants. Some different trails were used this year, a section called ‘the world cup descent’ was really something a bit special, here is a taster -

The event was very well organised as usual, with the band in the woods and the cheer leaders making that enormous first climb just a bit more bearable.
MBNW put in an excellent performance with 6 riders managing to make it in to the top 100, not bad considering 711 people entered. Well done to everyone that took part and thank you to all of the friends and family’s that came down to cheer team MBNW on and take some terrific pictures of the weekend. Team MBNW will be back in force next year

MBNW Take the Whinlatter Challenge 2010
Posted by Oggy in march 2010
It was a great MBNW turnout for the 2010 Whinlatter Challenge with members taking part in the Full and Half Enduro. It was seriously tough course with no shortage of steep long climbs and excellent slippery downhill single track. Anyone who didn’t make it along this year get it in the diary for 2011 as it one not to miss.
There were some excellent results from MBNW members and it was great to see young Matthew aged just 9 competing in the half Enduro, MBNW’s Dan Evans bagged himself an overall 17 position in the full distance with Gwyneth Williams taking 2nd place in the female Vets half distance.
A big thanks to everyone that took part for making this such a great event and a brilliant weekend away.
MBNW will defiantly be back in force next year.

New mountain bike ranger for North Wales
Posted on BikeRadar on 18th August 2009
After dealing with a murder, stabbings and working in areas riddled with World War II anti-tank mines as a safety adviser in Libya, Andy Braund is looking forward to a quieter life as Forestry Commission Wales's new mountain bike ranger in North Wales.
Andy also helped repair buildings in New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and regularly clambered over the Britannia Bridge across the Menai Straits in a previous incarnation as a "rope access" expert.
Now the 39-year-old has returned to his first love of mountain biking and is relishing the prospect of looking after the world-renowned trails in an area that he has ridden in for almost 20 years.
"Being able to go home to the family after a day's work is fantastic, and to work on the trails I ride regularly is a dream come true," said Andy. "The challenge is maintaining all the trails and evolving the product so that it continues to provide an exciting experience for people."
Andy lives in Penmachno and has been looking after the village trails voluntarily for the past two years. He will now have the responsibility of upholding the reputation of the FC Wales trails in Gwydyr and Coed y Brenin.
"My background is climbing and hill walking as well as canoeing, orienteering and other outdoor activities," said Andy. "But I'm absolutely passionate about mountain biking and always come back to that."
He hopes to create more volunteer schemes for the trails and encourage a greater sense of ownership among local riders, but keeping up with mountain biking technology will also be a challenge. "Very often these days, the bikes people pull off their car racks are worth more than the cars themselves," he said.
